OUGD405 | STUDIO BRIEF 4 | INTERIM CRIT & INITIAL IDEAS

For brief 4 we must identify a problem we have found in our research and aim to resolve this. We must write our own brief for the work we produce, and the work must coincide with this and be an appropriate response to what we have come up with.

Since I researched serial killers, I found this brief really hard to begin, as I hadn't really discovered an obvious problem during the time I did the research. I struggled to come up with any ideas.

The interim crit was quite useful as I had the opportunity to ask a group of people if they had any idea on the direction I could go with this brief. People gave me some great responses but they were all pretty humorous, for e.g a cannibal menu, a board game & top trumps. I thought I'd have to go down this route as I hadn't really thought of anything else.

I did some brain storming afterwards and I realised the problem with the research is that not enough people are educated on serial killers, and they're largely misunderstood and isolated in today's society. This causes them to be disengaged in communities and shunned out, possibly rightly so, but the situation is not helped regarding the way they are viewed. Instead of going down a route that has an element of humour, I thought of doing some sort of leaflet, business or organisation that helps people understand and become aware of people like Jeffrey Dahmer and the how they are mentally ill people who could even be helped before anything takes place. It's a bit of a hard brief to do but I feel this would be the best response from the previous research, as even though I think I'm hilarious, I'd rather not include any humour in my design.
