OUGD406 | STUDIO BRIEF 2 | BOOK COVER | SCREEN PRINTING

As part of the brief, we are to screen print our final design using two colours. For me, I wanted to use a soft black and a vibrant red tone.

When I arrived at the screen print workshop, the ink that caught my eye the most was ‘Neon red’, which would adhere to my previous research and experimentation, but add vibrancy to catch the audience’s attention.

I have never screen printed before so I was a little apprehensive about doing it incorrectly, however as soon as I got the hang of it, it was much easier than I’d anticipated and it was actually very enjoyable to watch my designs come out with little imperfections every time. I tried printing with a lot of ink, and also quite ‘faded’ with less ink in order to achieve a kind of distressed look that would further enhance the hand rendered style I had gone for.
