This brief is to create 10 differently styled letterforms, each reflecting a specific word, based from the typeface chosen in the previous task. For me, this was Helvetica.
Initially we were divided into groups on our tables and I selected the word "Traditional", which would be my word during this task. It was really effective to have a variety of different minds suggesting ideas and it was pretty useful for my project as it allowed me to collect a lot of ideas. Here is the mind map of ideas:
After this, everyone received an individual word to work with. Since I had already picked traditional and had some ideas floating around in my head, I stuck with this word. When I saw this word I felt excited as it will be interesting to try and manipulate a modern typeface such as Helvetica to fit with it.
I think when you see the word "traditional" you can immediately think of synonyms such as 'old' or 'historical', which is an obvious response that I will take into account. However I think this can be quite broad, and decided to narrow down my ideas:
Making my ideas more focused has helped with the next stage of the task.
