Here is the grid I have produced based from Helvetica in order to help me construct my alphabet:
I produced this using Illustrator.
For this Studio brief I have decided on taking the constellations design further as I feel like this is the most effective yet simple design that I have produced. Whilst thinking about taking it to Illustrator, I have not encountered any obvious problems that may arise. The structure of my letters are very simplistic, and I think it would be quite simple to produce by using lines and circles on the software.
The only issue I have thought about is the structure of the letters, and if I will produce them in uppercase or lowercase.
In my crit, it was agreed that the uppercase selection worked more effectively than the lowercase.
As shown, the lowercase 'a' has more intersections and overlaps, this is because I wanted to see if a more intricate design would look better. Those in my group at the crit said that it looked better without the large amount of overlapping lines.
It was suggested that one overlap perhaps would keep this style, but preserve legibility and the simplicity.
During the crit it was also agreed that uppercase looked a lot better than the lowercase, I think it keeps it simple, reflective of the traditional concept, yet looks fresh and modern in a way.
Overall the crit was useful as for allowing me to have a clearer direction with what I will be doing during the Illustrator workshops.
