OUGD503 / STUDIO BRIEF 01 / D&AD / RESEARCH / CAMPAIGNS

This campaign shows women of all sizes. It's important in this day and age not to alienate anyone. Predominantly, beauty standards have been exceptionally hard to reach in terms of the beauty used in today's media. In order to sell something, companies rely on heavily manipulated women and men, and the use of hypersexualisation. I want to be able to strip it back and focus on including everyone and making people feel comfortable with themselves.

This campaign by Selfridges really tickled my pickle. The inclusion of a diverse range of people makes this extremely successful, and inspiring for my own project. It takes those who have been ridiculed before, such as people with body modifications, or those who are unfairly demonised in the media such as people of colour, and brings out their beauty. It represents older people too, who can of course still be beautiful. The overall composition of the campaign is beautiful too, utilising Selfridge's iconic yellow and using overset sans serif creates an attractive contemporary layout.

The use of a hashtag #beautyproject is a way to get people talking, and generates hype.
