We began by just saying out loud words that could generate potential themes. We used the brief to spark words into our heads, which could become a fresh concept we can utilise.
Firstly, we took the word roots. This could relate to a hierarchy of comments, creating a fun and dynamic way to be social on a news app. It would be a unique idea, but how would this concept be applied further? Roots can relate to trees and nature, so could we incorporate this somehow?
The next theme we took forward was stack, which became a stack of cards. We created a mindmap for this idea, to come up with further ideas. The main influence here was Tinder, whilst thinking of ways to create an effective way to sift through news articles, we thought of how Tinder has the swipe left and swipe right feature that it's known for. This is a easy experience for the user as they know to just swipe left or right depending on how interested they are. Could we apply this concept to news? It would be effective for interaction and create a slick user experience, as users could somehow filter what theyre seeing depending on their interests, implementing an organised feel to the app.
We then did some rough sketches on how the deck of cards could look with information on. Users need a way to interact with this interface effectively and effortlessly. It should be as uncomplex as possible to relate to people on a spectrum, remaining modern. This idea was our favourite, as it seemed contemporary and had a strong theme to the concept. Next we need to find ways to develop this, and gain feedback.
