OUGD503 / STUDIO BRIEF 02 / BREAKDOWN OF CONCEPT

Your Telegraph

The final concept me and Jack decided on was the app named 'Your Telegraph', a customisable news platform for old and new readers. It will be a contemporary slant on a timeless newspaper, with a number of key features:

Filtering news topics

When initially downloading the app, the user will register as a member and then be shown the diverse categories of news that the Telegraph offers. The user can select which categories they'd like to see articles from, and which ones they'd like to avoid. This gives them the control over their experience within the app. If they hate sports, they can simply filter out all sport related news content at their will.

Responses

In order to bring about a more engaging, educational and constructive way of commenting on news stories, Your Telegraph presents Responses. Responses are a reaction, expression or opinion on any news article, which can be presented by audio, video or text. This could be a way for older more informed fans of the Telegraph to talk indepth about a subject/story they're passionate about, meanwhile educating and inspiring a younger audience. Members of the app can gain a following by publishing good quality Responses.

Profile

Like a lot of applications, Your Telegraph gives the user a personal profile which is fully customisable, and controlled by the user. This profile page offers users to display their top categories, pinned responses and their own personal responses to other members. You can follow other members to keep up with their responss and profile. Incorporating a profile creates a social aspect to the application and allows users to interact and mix those old and new members together.

Widgets

On article pages, the user can customise how they see their news stories by adding and removing widgets for example media, related news etc. This customisation option is a crucial part of the app, putting the news in the user's hands and the availability to have it their own way.
